NWCAA EVALUATION UPDATES
Timeline and Process
The U13 Evaluations will begin on Aug 28, 2021 with Goalie Skills Evaluation and then into game play. All sessions will be held at the Winsport Arenas.
The U15 Evaluations will begin on Aug 20, 2021 with 2008 Checking Learning sessions. Then Goalie Evaluations will begin on Aug 21, 2021.
The U16 Evaluations will begin with Goalie Evaluations on Aug 22, 2021, then game play.
Evaluation will be held at Winsport arenas for U15 and U16 from Aug 20 thru to Aug 27. Please check you corresponding age group tab for schedules and evaluation team rosters.
The U18 Evaluations will begin on Aug 28, 2021 with Goalie Skills Evaluation and then into game play. All sessions will be held at the Winsport Arenas.
Evaluation will be held at Winsport arena for U13 and U18 from Aug 28, thru to Sept 2. Please check you corresponding age group tab for schedules and evaluation team rosters.
There will be no scheduled ice session or practices on the long weekend September 3 to 6, 2021
In a typical year we do not communicate directly with families, but this is such an unprecedented time with Covid-19. There is a lot of information to share. There are AHS protocols and Facility protocols that we must all follow. These have been put in place to ensure the safety of all our players, families and volunteers. We have also posted the complete NWCAA 20/21 Evaluation Timeline and Processes on our website for you to review.
We would like to list a few of the very key points for you and your player to follow:
- There will be no spectators allowed in the facility at any time during the evaluation process. If you are found within the facility, you and your player will be asked to leave the premisses immediately.
- All players must check in at the Player Entrance of WinSport Arena D. We will have a registration table outside of the arena. Players must bring a completed covid-19-daily-checklist. Arrive no more than 30 minutes prior to your ice time.
- Players must arrived dressed in all their gear.
- Players must wear masks before and after the tryout sessions while in the facility.
- Shower facilities are not available.
- Players will go directly to the dressing room and they must remain in the dressing room until the ice time begins.
- After each tryout session players will have 10 to 15 min to remove their skates and exit the building.
- CHECK TRYOUT ROSTERS DAILY AS IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THEM TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.

Players are placed on one of eight teams. Two teams will be placed together to create a cohort. This cohort will play together for 3 ice times. Wednesday will be the U13 Dark Day. After the Thursday sessions, players will be drafted to one of the three U13 teams.
Note: There is no guarantee that all players will be drafted after the Friday sessions. In order to have the best possible opportunity and evaluation, it is recommended that players attend all tryout sessions.
The draft lists will be posted on the website. The draft lists will contain the names of all the U13 players that will continue on with the U13 tryouts. Players whose name does not appear on the draft lists, should report back to their community association for tryouts.
Upon completion of the draft, the selected players first ice time will be with their drafted team and coach. Players will then compete for placement on their team. At the exclusive discretion of the coaches, the players will be released accordingly with the possibility starting at the first ice time. Teams are generally finalized by the third week of September.

Junior A or WHL Invites to Main Camp
The NWCAA supports our players efforts to play at the highest level and understands the difficult decisions that families need to make. The U18 AAA process is extremely competitive, and players will only be evaluated on the sessions they attend. In order to have the best possible opportunity and evaluation, it is recommended that players attend all tryout sessions.
The NWCAA has a policy that players need to attend a minimum of 2 of the first 3 tryouts before the Red/White games to be eligible to play for the U18 AAA Flames. Exceptions may be made for returning U18 AAA Flames players attending Junior A or WHL camps. Exceptions may also be made when other unique circumstances occur and will require approval in advance from the NWCAA President, Team Coordinator and U18 AAA Head Coach.
Only if a player is missing a U18 AAA tryout due to a conflict with a camp (Junior A or WHL Camp only), you MUST CONTACT by e-mail Claudia Issler at admin@nwcaa.ca.*
The NWCAA ask that you keep in contact and update admin@nwcaa.ca as you proceed with the WHL or Junior A camps. This will allow the NWCAA to keep track of where our players are and provide a report to the coaching staff. Please note that you are NOT to contact the coaches directly.

No player shall miss a U18 AAA tryout due to attending a Junior B camp. The player will become ineligible for U18 AAA and may only continue in the tryout for U18 AA.

VERY IMPORTANT All players MUST REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS regardless of whether they will be attending Junior “A” camps. Players who are successful in making a Junior A team and do not step on the ice for the NWCAA, will be refunded. (If a player is not registered with the NWCAA prior to the registration deadline, the player will not be eligible to return to play with the NWCAA).
Providing that proper and timely communication has occurred, the final date for returning to the NWCAA will be prior to September 20, 2021 (subject to change). Players who wish to return after this date will only be invited to tryout for a NWCAA U21 team.
NWCAA U21 Tryouts
Each of the four quadrants operates two teams within the Calgary Junior Hockey League (CJHL) that play a 30 game season. It is operated by Hockey Calgary and sanctioned by Hockey Canada. The CJHL is one of the oldest hockey leagues operating in Alberta.
Players must first register online to tryout prior to your first ice time. There is no tryout fee. Only players who have fully completed the registration prior to tryouts will be allowed to tryout. Register Early.
Important note for U21 players who are transferring from a team out of Province. There is a $105.00 transfer fee that is charged per player and must be collected prior to your 1st ice time. This fee is automatically charged by Hockey Alberta to the quadrants per player for all out of province transfers.
Important: Hockey Canada has moved to a new registration platform using TeamSnap. You will require your players Hockey Canada ID in order to register. Click here to find how to locate your Hockey Canada ID.

Please note; all league games will be played on Friday evenings and Sunday evenings only. Full Face protection is now mandatory for all U21 players. Each player will be required to have full face protection prior to any game play.
After September 18th (date subject to change) players will be drafted to a team. Please check each individual team link for further details after this date.
**If you are placed on a U21 roster payment of the season’s registration fee (or first instalment is due by October 31st). Payment must be made to be able to play. If a player is released from a U21 team prior to January 10th cut off, they will be issued a partial refund of fees (if applicable). Refund amount will be determined based on the release date. Partial refunds for injured players may be given if injury occurs prior to December 31st of the current season and the player does not return to play.
The U21 program requires volunteers. Players, coaches and trainers commit to their team and make essential contributions to help the team succeed. Volunteers are an integral part of the teams success, please get involved… managers, scorekeepers, time keepers… friends, parents, siblings, fans who support their teams make a difference. NWCAA U16 Tryouts
Goalie tryouts will commence Sunday August 23, 2020 - Henry Viney (see “Goalies” tab above for further updates, information and schedule). Goalies will receive their Evaluation Jersey at this session and will be required to bring that to all Evaluation Games

Junior A or WHL Invites to Main Camp
The NWCAA support our players efforts to play at the highest level and understand the difficult decisions that families need to make. The AAA process is extremely competitive and players will only be evaluated on the sessions they attend. In order to have the best possible opportunity and evaluation, it is recommended that players attend all tryout sessions. The NWCAA has a policy that players need to attend a minimum of 2 tryouts in order to be eligible to play for the Flames as there are no guaranteed/secured spots for returning players. Exceptions may be permitted when unique circumstances occur but will require approval in advance from the NWCAA President and age level group Head Coach.
Only if a player is missing a U18 AAA tryout due to a conflict with a camp (Junior A or WHL Camp only), you MUST CONTACT by e-mail Claudia Issler at admin@nwcaa.ca.*
The NWCAA ask that you keep in contact and update Claudia Issler at admin@nwcaa.ca as you proceed with the WHL or Junior A camps. This will allow the NWCAA to keep track of where our players are and provide a report to the coaching staff. Please note that you are NOT to contact the coaches directly.

No player shall miss a U18 AAA tryout due to attending a Junior B camp. The player will become ineligible for U18 AAA and may only continue in the tryout for U18 AA.

VERY IMPORTANT All players MUST REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS regardless of whether they will be attending Junior “A” camps. Players who are successful in making a Junior A team and do not step on the ice for the NWCAA, will be refunded. (If a player is not registered with the NWCAA prior to the registration deadline, the player will not be eligible to return to play with the NWCAA).
Providing that proper and timely communication has occurred, the final date for returning to the NWCAA will be prior to September 23rd (date subject to change). Players who wish to return after this date will only be invited to tryout for a NWCAA U21 team.

NWCAA U21 Tryouts
Each of the four quadrants operates two teams within the Calgary Junior Hockey League (CJHL) that play a 30 game season. It is operated by Hockey Calgary and sanctioned by Hockey Canada. The CJHL is one of the oldest hockey leagues operating in Alberta.
Players must first register online to tryout prior to your first ice time. There is no tryout fee. Only players who have fully completed the registration prior to tryouts will be allowed to tryout. Register Early.
Important note for U21 players who are transferring from a team out of Province. There is a $105.00 transfer fee that is charged per player and must be collected prior to your 1st ice time. This fee is automatically charged by Hockey Alberta to the quadrants per player for all out of province transfers.

Important: Hockey Canada has moved to a new registration platform using TeamSnap. You will require your players Hockey Canada ID in order to register. Click here to find out how to locate your Hockey Canada ID. We are not able to find this for you.
***Your registration will not be accepted or registered until you check out completely in the registration system. There are no fees to register for U21 tryouts.

Please note; all league games will be played on Friday evenings and Sunday evenings only. Full Face protection is now mandatory for all U21 players. Each player will be required to have full face protection prior to any game play.
After September TBA players will be drafted to a teams. Please check each individual team link for further details after this date.
**If you are placed on a U21 roster payment of the season’s registration fee (or first instalment is due by October 31st). Payment must be made to be able to play. If a player is released from a U21 team prior to January 10th cut off, they will be issued a partial refund of fees (if applicable). Refund amount will be determined based on the release date. Partial refunds for injured players may be given if injury occurs prior to December 31st of the current season and the player does not return to play.
The U21 program requires volunteers. Players, coaches and trainers commit to their team and make essential contributions to help the team succeed. Volunteers are an integral part of the teams success, please get involved… managers, scorekeepers, time keepers… friends, parents, siblings, fans who support their teams make a difference. Please get involved!
